Outside of the winter seasons, Zermatt has a lot to offer for active people. Besides summer skiing on the glacier, you can enjoy hiking, climbing, mountain biking and golf amongst others. There are numerous well-marked footpaths and walks (400km in all) that will take you through pine-scented mountain forests, to the shores of calm Alpine lakes and ice-blue glaciers. Mountain railways make it easy to reach the high altitude hiking areas. There are many mountains cabins and restaurants ready to offer a warm welcome and a leisurely rest. Situated at the foot of the Matterhorn and surrounded by the 38 four thousand metre-high mountains.
